Melanoma is, sadly, a problem that is “growing” on more and more Australians. ACMAV held a refresher seminar on this topic and also covered recent advances in melanoma management.

Our guest speakers were Surgeons Nicole YapDavid Gyorki, Medical Oncologist Annie Wong, Radiation Oncologist Jacki Doughton, and Patient Advocate Paul White.

As a special treat, member Jason Chuen brought along some 3D-printed models!

Note: This seminar was supported by MSD Australia, distributors of pembrolizumab (Keytruda®), a new targeted anti-PD1 immunotherapy for metastatic melanoma which has been temporarily approved for use under the PBS under the Managed Entry Scheme (MES).

On Saturday 20 Feb 2016, the year of the monkey started with a full belly. The ACMAV membership gathered at China Bar Signature, Burwood, for a grand feast. We welcomed new members and it was a rare opportunity for ACMAV members and their families to get together for a purely social occasion.  This year, instead of the classic yum cha, we enjoyed a smorgasbord of delectables on offer in the buffet. Thank you to Central Equity for donating the door prize, won by Dr John Chew.

The ACMAV is an incorporated association of medical practitioners of Chinese background or interest. It is the Victorian branch of the Australasian Council of Chinese Medical Associations. It was formed under the auspices of the Australian Medical Association (Victorian Branch) in the late 1970’s and remains an affiliate of the AMA.

Through its educational, charitable and social activities, the ACMAV provides a forum for its members to interact on a professional and personal level, while focusing on the health needs of the local Chinese and broader communities.
